The Dakota 20 comes with a lot of free accessories inside the box. It is has a strong lanyard, a USB cable, an owner’s manual CD, and a quick start manual.
There are a number of additional accessories that you should consider to get the most out of your Dakota 20.
Maps
While the Garmin Dakota 20 comes with a worldwide basemap, you will almost certainly need to purchase additional maps for your different expeditions. These are, unfortunately, not cheap. One multi-purpose set of maps that you’ll find particularly useful is the 100k US Topo Bundle. This provides togographical coverage of the U.S., including Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Alaska, on a 1:100,000 scale. These maps provide detailed coverage and points of concern for explorers, such as lookouts, camping sites and picnic grounds. ($265)
Carrying Case
To keep your Dakota 20 safe, a Garmin Silicone case is recommended ($13). You may also want to get the Carabiner clip ($13) for easy carrying.
Auto Kit
You can use your Dakota 20 in the car for GPS directions. To make this much easier, the Garmin Auto Nav Kit ($31) is recommended.
